Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos has asked Bench to take down the hottest billboard on Edsa-Guadalupe.

Bye-bye sexy Bench ad along EDSA?
By Camille Naredo and Ira Pedrasa, abs-cbnNEWS.com

MANILA, Philippines – Mandaluyong City Mayor Benhur Abalos is asking advertisers to take down the billboard of the Philippine Volcanoes along EDSA-Guadalupe. (My note: clean up Pasig River first.)

The Bench billboard features the members of the Philippine rugby team posing in their underwear.
“Hindi ko pinapaalis, I am just requesting advertisers to have it removed,” Abalos told abs-cbnNEWS.com. (My note: pareho na yon.)
He said the advertisers have already committed to removing the ad.

Abalos said the advertisement was inappropriate, especially since it was placed prominently along a busy area. He added that he was specially concerned about children who see the ad.
Abalos, mayor of the city where the billboard is located, said he found out about the ad from Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian.

Gatchalian said he covered his nephews’ eyes when they passed the billboard.
“That road is in the center of Metro Manila, ang daming dumadaan,” Abalos said.
But the mayor insists that this is not a moral issue.
“Baka sabihin nila nagpapaka-moralista ako. I’m not very conservative,” he said.
He also said that he did not know the players who posed for the ad.
Abalos will also check another Bench billboard located along EDSA Guadalupe, which features the Azkals’ team captain, Aly Borromeo, also posing in his underwear. (end quote)

My note: Let me save you the trouble, sir.

The mayor may take down some billboards, but he can’t stop Bench from selling the calendar.
The new Bench calendar featuring the Philippine Volcanoes are available for only Php 69 at selected Bench and Herbench stores, plus all Bench Body stores nationwide. Percentage of sales will go to the Philippine Rugby Football Union.
(My note: 69 pesos talaga? Di ba puedeng 68 or 70 pesos? Baka magalit si Mayor :))

My note: ang dami kong notes, hehe.

Perhaps we should just have left them there. Those guys worked hard, pretty hard maybe 4 to 6 hours a day to earn those physiques. They deserve credit for all those hours of exercise. Yeah, mayor Gatchalian should perhaps focus on more pressing issues like the glue-sniffing streetchildren and how to find ways to get them off the streets.

My friend mentioned this issue in the news of billboards of Philippine volcanoes. Cool, I thought it was National Geographic. I overestimated. Anyway, I find there are way too many billboards on our major roadways. It competes with making beautiful views of our cities.  In this case, does anyone really look at the river/riverbanks at all? Plus I thought billboards were a hazard after those times that some collapsed during a typhoon and killed some people. Does anyone remember this?  Also, in the first photo, there’s a tall building in the background with half of it covered with an ad.… Read more »

i dunno which disgusts me more. how a lot of Filipinos still seem to be living in the 1800’s, or the sickening double standards that our public officials have. kapag babaeng naka underwear ok lang, pero kapag lalaki na hindi? at please lang, babae ako… i think those men look incredibly good but i am not aroused by those pictures. nasan ang provocative dyan eh nakapose naman sila ng maayos? those pa conservative effect mommies should get over themselves. kung tingin nyo bastos ang mga yan, pwes kayo na ang may problema dahil kayo ang nagbibigay ng malisya. and please… Read more »

Ms. C, this is what I want to say to Mayor Abalos at kay Mayor Gatchalian: “Boooooo! Ang corny nyo! Minsan na lang magkaroon ng magandang tanawin sa Maynila, kinontra nyo pa!”

Seriously though, shouldn’t they be taking care of more important things (like cleanliness and safety, jobs for their constituents, education, etc) instead of acting like middle aged prudes? Ang corny nila Mayor — inaagawan ng moment ang Volcanoes!

Nasa’n ba kayo mga Mayor nung pumutok ang Mt Pinatubo? Haha jk. Seriously, these kinds of billboards/advertisements aren’t new to anyone. Just thinking of the times I’ve had meals on this site, naku, countless na. So its really really nakakalowka na parang si Mayor naman yata ang nakulong ng 15 years at pag labas eh na shock sa mga ganap! #2, mayor– I don’t want to make my point on this very mahaba. just refer to the image I attached! ty #3, why did you cover your nephews’ eyes?? let’s make it clear. nephews sabi mo diba? malamang they are… Read more »

I respect other people’s view about these billboards saying it is too sensual or provocative but why act only now when in fact these kinds of billboards regardless of the gender of the model, have been posted since the last 5 years or so. Ang kinaiinisan ko lang yung politician from valenzuela who commented about the billboard kesohodang kasama nya pamangkin nya o hindi habang nasa guadalupe sila. Knowing his from valenzuela, I bet he has seen or passed by balintawak and saw Dingdong Dantes massive billboard doing the same stuff or kahit sabihin na lang natin na dumaan na… Read more »

Biset tong mga pulitikong ‘to.  Nakakapang-init ng ulo.

There have been many similar billboards in the past with naked bodies by both male and female at the same locations.
Just only now there are 4 in a row and by the same company. The city has allowed many skin body billboard so they should allow these four as well, there is no difference. What if these 4 billboards were all from different companies??

The billboards were already folded,  early morning today (I think).  I actually don’t have nothing against the billboards.  If one person is really not interested in looking, he/she won’t take a second or third look.  It depends on the person on how he/she will look at the billboards, IMHO. The motorists/drivers should never pay attention to any billboard at all while driving.  As the old saying goes, EYES ON THE ROAD, HANDS ON THE WHEEL.  I believe the billboards are meant for the passengers.  HeheAnd hey, Dingdong’s billboard in EDSA Balintawak was never taken down before.  Same as with Jake… Read more »

Parang mas imoral pa mga billboads at tarpuline ng mga PULITIKO, kung kapag greetings mula sa (Fiesta, Christmas, Graduation, Independence day, Birthday ni Mayor to the Baranggay Tanod…..etc…etc. at ang nakakaluka pa dito pati sa lamay ng patay may pangalan ng mga PUT_NG INA_G PULITIKO).

Did the team captain had his lips stung by bees, and used up a stick of Chaps before the photo shoot?   Let’s face it, this has been a win-win situation.  The ‘self-righteous moralists’ will claim social activism is alive and working in the Philippines; the ‘liberal licentious’ crowd will claim progress in inciting discussion and openness. Meanwhile, Ben Chan is laughing his way to the bank.  Did we ever think that being asked to take them down was never in the game plan of his PR guys?  Brilliancy!
