Tawaran portion

I may have saved a family of seven from super typhoon Yolanda.
My former yaya lives in Romblon with her husband and five children. They were the first thing I remembered when I turned on the TV yesterday and saw that Romblon was being hit by the typhoon.
I texted and hoped for a response.

Sometimes you just need to convince them to leave their worldly possessions.

This yaya, when we were both single, helped me during a very difficult time in my life. She was the sweetest, kindest yaya to me. I’ll never forget that, so I still help her more than 13 years later.

But then I have my limits too, hehe.

I’m not the best Catholic out there so I try to make up for my sins by helping others.
Besides, I feel safer helping directly someone I know, rather than giving to an organization.

conversation is practical and it has a heart. it is right to give help to our househelp, especially when they had been with us for a long time, and if they are doing their job well. i like the limitation, something i learn from my mom, its alright to give but set a limitation, or they will be aggressive next time around. its a way of returning the favour yet it also says that i am the boss. =)

My son’s yaya’s family (4 year old son, sisters and nanay) are in Tacloban. We still dont know what had happened with them. Last time we heard from them was they were in the evacuation area. Promised our yaya that we will send help/money. How are you going to send money po?

I hope you post an update on your driver’s daughter’s whereabouts and condition. My family was spared from harm and devastation but am praying for everyone else affected by the storm.

So nice of you to do this and to inspire and spread the word. The Mother Teresa quote speaks volumes. My dad did something similar yesterday. We are not well to do to be able to give out a big donation right away but he asked our kasambahay if she could ask her son, an auto-worker in Cebu, to take out a loan from his company to pay for construction and roofing materials to repair their battered house, and my dad will pay the monthly amortization. Yolonda was like a tsunami. Let’s all help our fellow kababayans rebuild their homes… Read more »

You’re inspiring! I think that good deeds should not always be kept to oneself, because keeping it to oneself sometimes makes it (mostly) invisible, leading most people to believe that no one out there cares, that no one out there is helping, and that no one is responsible to help.

I see my comment was deleted….it’s okay. I was just trying to encourage you that you don’t need to “do something to earn righteousness” because you are already accepted, forgiven, loved and blessed by God ,no matter what.

You’re an angel ms.c, guy did not even have to ask, you offered your help first. I am sure you have encouraged a lot of your readers to do the same, in whatever capacity they can. It is not really the amount, it is more of being able to help out, and those in need won’t feel alone in this trying time.

No offense, but I believe these things – good deeds, that is – should be kept to yourself. Lessens your mitzvah.
