My week with singaw and the joy of Apple TV
Posted on

For the past week I’ve been nursing this multiple singaw or canker sore on the left side of my cheek. I’d take a picture but everyone I’ve showed it to feels like vomiting.
I know it was caused by my gum chewing, which was due to my diet. I’ve been dieting for one week and I’ve already lost 3 lbs. I need to lose about 13 more.
Dieting makes my mouth dry and gives one bad breath, so I chew gum a few times a daw. Hence the singaw—not one, but two. It feels like three.
So I’ve stopped chewing gum, been taking Vitamin B, and applying Pyralvex on the sores. I should gargle Bactidol.
Sometimes it feels like the sores are closing or about to end, then they open up again.
The pain is so great that I develop a migraine, which doubles the pain.
This diet is such a suffering that I’ve stayed mostly at home and in bed.

This past week my best friend has been the Apple TV, which I discovered through my techie Dad.
Apple TV is a little gadget you connect to the back of your TV. I got mine from Amazon for only $99.

Apple TV Reviews Photo

To make it work you’ll need wifi, an Apple ID, and a Mac.
From there you can watch all the latest trailers and download all the movies and TV shows on iTunes.
Much better if you have a US-based account (like I do) for better selections on movies and TV.
I’ve seen some interesting movies and documentaries lately. I should tell you about it in the days to come.

This one works for me, and is free to boot. When taking a bath, take a swig of plain water and keep in your mouth during the whole time you are bathing. If somehow you swallow it, no prob. Just take another swig. It’s important to keep it in your mouth while bathing. Spit it out afterwards. I had this tip when I met a client and I can barely talk because of a week-old singaw. I used to have outbreaks once a month, but now as rare as once every two years since making this a habit. Good thing… Read more »

Maybe the singaw is because of your toothpaste. One of the main ingredients in toothpastes is SLS (sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate). It is the main cause of canker sores. Try using SLS-free toothpastes (many available in Healthy Options). I’ve been using them for years and never had a singaw again. And im not even exaggerating. As in NEVER.  And of course, there’s always tawas. That one i used when i was still a kid. Apply it before you sleep, and voila, next morning the pain is magically gone. That stuff is wicked!

when i get singaw I go to my denstist and have her treat the sores with this dark brown liquid. i’m not sure what it’s called (not really interested so long as it works) but I overheard the assistant say it’s bactidol (maybe of a diff strength than the OTC, then?). Without it, my singaw lasts 2+ weeks; with it, it’s healed in a couple of days, and with immediate relief…well, immediate as in after the initial sting–because, trust me, it stings upon application.

Ms. C, try using Bonjela. The closest you can buy is from HK though. It is very effective. Stings, but then after, it numbs the area. 🙂

lately i’ve been getting sores too. denstist said to stop sleeping late. go to your dentist, have him/her put debacterol (get ready for debilitating pain but it’ll only last 5secs, promise!) then don’t eat/drink anything hot, cold lang and it’ll crust up and fall off after 3 days 🙂

Debacterol!! I think I’ve told you about this Cecile years ago haha

No. 2 choice – agree, Kamillosan is a good natural cure.
No. 3 also, Ilog Maria propolis spray (just like Kamillosan)

But Debacterol is the best, fastest, and most gratifying… hehe. I find I’ve gotten used to the sting after years of using it.

Maybe you’re also dehydrated? Get lots of water while on your diet, that always helps 🙂

I put salt directly on the singaw and it closes the next day (fastest recovery I’ve experienced). That way I can do it myself rather than have my Mom or brother (who are both dentists) put Debacterol on it. I scream and cry when I do it though. No pain no gain!

I used to suffer from “singaw” too, more frequently as a kid. These days, sometimes it’s due to stress; other times, it seems to be part of PMS (weird, I know). Was also suki ng Pyralvex as a kid, and it really hurt like hell. Have also tried gargling with Listerine but aside from the sting, I think it really mostly helped with at least cleansing my mouth.  I thought Orofar-L was also for singaw? But I could be mistaken. I was advised before though to drink Yakult whenever I have singaw. I don’t know if it’s the milk or… Read more »

Ms. C I used Defflam lozenges 1hr before eating para di masakit masyado when I eat and drink nun.  Then regular brushing + gargle with Bactidol after every meal. Also, I used Rowagel, recommended ng ENT. It helps me naman all the time when I get canker sores (due to stress naman me). Hope you’ll be ok na.

Hi Ms. C. I find that Pyralvex doesn’t work much too. If you can stand a split second “hapdi”, ask your dentist to apply Debacterol on the singaw. It sort of cauterizes the surface and the pain goes away. I usually ask my patients if they want this option (split second hapdi as opposed to two weeks suffering waiting for the singaw to go away). Another option is you can take Orofar lozenges to help “numb” the area with the singaw.

Pyralvex doesn’t work for me so I use Dequadin oral solution. It works wonders. I also apply it on sore tonsils/throat. 🙂

What I like about Pyralvex is the brush but it also encourages double-dipping so yeah. I swear by Dequadin. Just use cotton swabs.

Best remedy Ms. C: Kamilosan Spray. You can buy it in Mercury Drug via the counter. Not only good for mouth sores but for tonsillitis and to prevent bad breath, just spray 2x per side of the throat or use cotton swab and apply on your mouth sore. Tastes minty and herbal but promise, I recommend this to all my friends and they have used it since. 🙂 My dentist even uses it for her patients too.

Not Salt – It’s the worst.
Dentist will apply a small amount of Debacterol on affected area, and it’s like magic! Gone fast!
