First look: Uniqlo at Mall of Asia
Posted on

I may have first heard of Uniqlo from my brother who discovered it in London and now flies often to Japan for work. From him I got to know this Japanese fast fashion brand that’s known for affordable basics for men, women, teens and kids—for home, work, play and exercise.
Uniqlo is also known for collaborating with other iconic brands—anywhere from Walt Disney and Hello Kitty to Laura Ashley, Lulu Guiness—all the way to Jil Sander and Undercover.
In Ginza, Tokyo, it’s a great place to buy pasalubong because of its price points.

UNIQLO, Ginza

I’ve been to Uniqlo in Singapore’s Somerset and ION Orchard malls—the latter has two levels and is always busy.
I’ve been to the one in Bangkok, which was great because it was spacious and no longer crowded. That’s where I bought the comfiest lounging pants I use everyday.
No matter what country, there’s never enough time for Uniqlo, because of its size and madness. I’m always stressed and in a hurry to shop when I’m there. But not anymore when it opens at Mall of Asia this June 15, 2012.

Uniqlo at MOA

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of going through the aisles and looking at everything it has to offer without the mad crowd and confusion of what to buy.
I was amazed to see merchandise with Philippine prices—so affordable! On its opening week, many items will be marked down, as jeans go for an unreal price of Php 590. I’m already scared of the pandemonium this is going to cause.
Not to worry, the 1,550-square-meter store has 15 cash registers ready for the masses, plus 14 fitting rooms.
What I don’t like about Uniqlo is they are very strict about the four-piece maximum in the fitting room. And you know me, I always come with an armload of stuff.

Take a look at what’s in store when Uniqlo opens in Manila this Friday.
Our group arrived before 2 PM at Mall of Asia this afternoon. You’ll find Uniqlo at the 2nd level of the Main Mall where Kultura and Marrionaud used to be.

Hello Chris Tiu! You’re not bad-looking.

There was a TV crew filming when we came in.

There are seven Japanese Uniqlo staff in Manila for the opening. Some of them will be staying here longer to help set up the next branches.

I am a huge fan of elastic waistbands. Nix and I loved the pants with elastic waistbands. They are so comfy.

I wonder if in Manila they also sell the undershirts (men/women) that have sweat pads attached to the underarms? Very good if you want to keep the sweat marks away from your blouse. Sarafine/Airism is fantastic, especially for Philippine weather =)

Do you have to remove shoes before going in the fitting rooms? In SG, no shoes allowed…

For a store that large parang hindi ata realistic ang max 4 items for fitting on.
Im hyperventilating as I browse through the pictures.. I’m so close to giving up my camping/hiking/swimming adventure on Friday para makipag balyahan sa mga dadagsa sa opening ng Uniqlo.;p

Hi Cecile,

Uniqlo has just opened their largest store here in SG last June 8. It’s in Iluma Mall, Bugis 🙂

Wow. 590 for a pair of jeans is just amazing! Ms. Cecil, did you happen to see if there are polo shirtdresses? I was able to buy from Uniqlo in Singapore and I love the fit. I wish I bought more.

AIRISM is a very good product. (Sarafine to the Nihinggo hanashimasu) I bought all colours of the trousers. The Laura Ashley t-shirts are good too. Did they not bring in Orla Kiely–that was a cute print line of tees and scarves…or Mosslight? The dresses were REALLY cute!! Or Vince–??? (baka ‘hindi kilala” as usual)

I usually grab their underclothes and specialty shirts. It’s nice to see that they’re bringing in the older designs (like the orange shirt. It’s from the anime Evangelion & it was released last year). I wonder if they’ll bring in their Harry Potter designs? Hmm. 😀

I also love their sportswear line with Dri-Fit-like technology (I forgot what they call it) and they have jackets and tees that offer UV protection too! Bagay talaga for Manila. 🙂

I love Uniqlo and it’s a must-go for me whenever I’m in a city that has one… But but but… MOA is so far. I hope they open somewhere more northern soon. Because as much as I love Uniqlo, I don’t trek-all-the-way-to-MOA-and-brave-the-crowds love it. Backstreet Boys lang ang love ko ng ganun.

Are the prices cheaper than in SG or same lang? I always buy Kerin tanktops there. MOA is so far. I’ll go with you na lang. hehe.

HOMAYGAD. Ang mura. I’m dying of envy.

I used to work near Orchard and would walk to Uniqlo to stress-shop during lunch breaks. I was there the morning it opened at Somerset. I think it’s the thing I miss most about Singapore.
