Fashion meets technology with Fashion Exchange International and Samsung
Posted on

Fashion Exchange International (FEI) recently teamed up with Samsung for a two-day event at the Marriott Manila, where Samsung showcased the Gear 360 as its 360-degree camera captured moments as they happened.
The Samsung Gear VR, on the other hand, allowed guests to relive fashion moments through virtual reality.

The event was filled with advances in technology, intended to match what Filipino designers need to go global. In Fashionology Talks, Joey Mead-King hosted a forum with designers (L-R) Francis Libiran, Rosenthal Tee, and Rajo Laurel, who shared ideas on the role of fashion in today’s world.

PR and marketing specialist Carmina Sanchez-Jacob, events director Robby Carmona, businesswoman and fashion icon Valerie Lim, and Asia Pacific MNC corporate veteran Henry Chan founded FEI to open more opportunities for Filipino designers in the international market.

Among them: Amina Aranaz-Alunan, Ann Ong, Dennis Lustico, Francis Libiran, Ivarluski Aseron, Jail Jeans, Jeffrey Rogador, John Herrera, Ken Samudio, Maco Custodio, Proudrace, Rajo Laurel, Rosenthal Tee and Indonesian fashion designer Tex Saverio.

Saverio, whose pieces have been worn by Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, and Jennifer Lawrence, showcased his collection via a fashion show at the Marriott Grand Ballroom.

FEI also staged a Buyer’s Show consisting of the ready-to-wear collections of Laurel, Libiran, Aseron and Lustico. The presentations of the four designers were documented using Samsung Gear 360 units stationed at different areas, to capture different points of view in fashion, allowing anyone to see the whole picture as if they were there.

Mark Nicdao and BJ Pascual shoot ad campaigns using Samsung phones
Posted on

As a blogger, I never leave home without a camera. I don’t feel complete without one, especially when I’m traveling. Now that camera phones have been invented, it’s a good think I’ll always have a backup whenever my camera’s battery dies unexpectedly.
Camera phones have improved so much that the pictures they take are good enough for blogging.

I’ve been a Samsung phone user ever since the first Galaxy Note was introduced. Right now I carry two Samsungs—a Note 4 and an S6 Edge Plus.
The most recent Samsung phone to come out is the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, which they recently launched at the Green Sun Hotel.

What sets it aside from all other camera phones is its ability to take great pictures in the dark and underwater. Plus, you can use it with the Samsung Gear VR.

To prove its versatility, Samsung Philippines called on two of the country’s top fashion photographers to create ad campaigns using only a camera phone.
To demonstrate its lowlight capability, BJ Pascual photographed Georgina Wilson in a Patrick Nagel-inspired set and the theme “Own The Night”.

Mark Nicdao tested the phone’s underwater capacity by shooting Solenn Heussaff underwater with the theme “Into The Blue.”

“I was both hesitant and thrilled when I was first offered the project,” said Mark. “First, I haven’t done an underwater shoot, and second, I’ve never done a fashion shoot with just a smartphone. Combining the both was a real challenge.”

With these awe-inspiring stunts, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has make us rethink what a phone can do.

Samsung Gear VR cheat sheet: What you need to know about this year’s biggest toy
Posted on

Last Christmas season, the biggest toy of the season was the hoverboard. I have three sons and three hoverboards at home. Luckily we only had to buy one for Markus, because Tito Quark gave one to Ben and Tito Dennis and Tita Chame gave one to Christian.
This year however, I feel it’s all about the Samsung Gear VR (virtual reality).

Samsung Gear VR

I received mine recently and I can’t tell you how many times the boys asked me when they could get their hands on it. Not right away because first I had to fully charge my phone to use it.
But wait. Here are a few things you need to know about the Samsung Gear VR.

1) It will only work with the following Samsung phones: Galaxy Note5, S6 edge+, S6, and S6 edge, and soon, the new S7 phones.

2) It runs on with an Oculus app, which you can only download after connecting your Samsung phone to it.

3) Make sure your phone is fully charged because the Samsung Gear VR only runs on your phone’s power source (no batteries!). The downside—I can’t use my phone while the kids are using them (ugh!).

4) Connecting the phone can be tricky. There is a micro USB plug on the Samsung Gear VR that connects to your phone. After you connect those, snap it in and secure with the latches.
(The Samsung Gear VR also comes with a black cover. Take note however that the phone will tend to heat up, so I’m going to try using this without the cover to see if it is less hot without cover.)

5) After you connecting your phone for the first time, you will be prompted to download the Oculus app, where you need to create an account. You’ll also need a credit card to download games, although the Gear VR is pre-loaded with trailers and videos.
You can have loads of fun solving third-person adventure games such as Herobound: Spirit Champion and Adventure Time, or unlocking mysteries and exploring pathways with Land’s End. Shooter game fans will also have a blast with Viral, Smash Hit and Eve: Gunjack, which take users at center of the action with stunning graphics.

You can also enjoy apps like Oculus Video and Netflix—can’t wait to watch horror!!
With the Oculus Social app, Gear VR users from all over the world can hang out in a virtual movie theater while watching videos on Vimeo and Twitch.
Yay Netflix!

6) There’s a setting on the Samsung Gear VR that allows you to adjust the image to your eyes. Both my sons wear glasses, but with the Samsung Gear VR, no need!

7) Best to use the tutorial first because this isn’t a plug-and-play gadget and that’s me talking (I’m a techie). Some of the buttons are very sensitive and there’s a tendency for the user to touch the wrong buttons.

8) It needs Wifi to work!!

9) The Samsung Gear VR is already available at Samsung stores or if you’re a Smart subscriber, you can sign up HERE.
