Mark Nicdao and BJ Pascual shoot ad campaigns using Samsung phones
Posted on

As a blogger, I never leave home without a camera. I don’t feel complete without one, especially when I’m traveling. Now that camera phones have been invented, it’s a good think I’ll always have a backup whenever my camera’s battery dies unexpectedly.
Camera phones have improved so much that the pictures they take are good enough for blogging.

I’ve been a Samsung phone user ever since the first Galaxy Note was introduced. Right now I carry two Samsungs—a Note 4 and an S6 Edge Plus.
The most recent Samsung phone to come out is the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, which they recently launched at the Green Sun Hotel.

What sets it aside from all other camera phones is its ability to take great pictures in the dark and underwater. Plus, you can use it with the Samsung Gear VR.

To prove its versatility, Samsung Philippines called on two of the country’s top fashion photographers to create ad campaigns using only a camera phone.
To demonstrate its lowlight capability, BJ Pascual photographed Georgina Wilson in a Patrick Nagel-inspired set and the theme “Own The Night”.

Mark Nicdao tested the phone’s underwater capacity by shooting Solenn Heussaff underwater with the theme “Into The Blue.”

“I was both hesitant and thrilled when I was first offered the project,” said Mark. “First, I haven’t done an underwater shoot, and second, I’ve never done a fashion shoot with just a smartphone. Combining the both was a real challenge.”

With these awe-inspiring stunts, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has make us rethink what a phone can do.

Hershey’s Kisses Deluxe: Perfect gifts for the season
Posted on

Two things I love: milk chocolate and great packaging.
Hershey’s Kisses happens to have both. I love the cute shape of Herhey’s Kisses with the foil wrapper and the delicate strip of paper.

Hershey's Kisses

My favorite memory of Hershey’s Kisses would be Halloween 2010. I found rare black Hershey’s Kisses at the supermarket. I had never seen those before so I bought a bag. Then my friend Grace and I went to Sugi, Greenbelt 5, for dinner and sat at the mezzanine. Down below we saw a cute (gay) guy we had never seen before. Just for fun we threw him a black Hershey’s kiss and ducked. Unfortunately it hit a waiter instead.

Hershey’s Kisses have always been a symbol of thoughtfulness. Bite-sized and melt-in-your-mouth, it’s just the right gift for people you love and care for.
Now Hershey’s has created a kiss that’s twice the size of the Original Hershey’s Kiss.
Hershey’s Kisses Deluxe is layered with rich, milk chocolate, delicate rice crisps, and a velvety smooth chocolate interior. At the center of it is a whole roasted hazelnut.

To celebrate its Philippine launch, Hershey’s Kisses Deluxe teamed up with photographer Jake Verzosa to capture some of Manila’s celebrated personalities in black-and-white photographs. A gold brush kiss mark narrated the brand’s story.
The exhibit, which was open to the public at Bonifacio Global City High Street last November 26, featured Georgina Wilson, one of the most sought-after celebrities of her generation. She is the first Filipino host of Asia’s Next Top Model. She has co-authored a book (“Besties”) and owns an eyewear brand called Sunnies Studios.

In 1999, I was on Mega magazine’s first ever Best Dressed issue. That was 15 years ago. (Photo: Lorraine Belmonte)

This year, I am one of Preview‘s Best Dressed—achieve! Hehe.
Seriously though my colour scheme hasn’t changed. And I am still difficult to photograph. (Photo: Koji Arboleda)

When I was a kid we had film cameras and flashbulbs. You only took pictures during special occasions, unlike now where kids take selfies all the time and are used to the camera. That said, I would rather take pictures than be in them.
This month’s Preview (July 2014) features Georgina Wilson and Celine Lopez on the cover.

This year, Preview wanted to do more than come up with a list of best-dressed girls. So they decided to put two unlikely women together and ask them to converse. This year’s list also includes Jo Ann Bitagcol, Kim Jones, Ria Prieto, Pam Quiñones, Anne Arcenas, Marga Valdes-Trinidad, Tina Ong, Tinay Villiamiel, Zelda Kienle, Jessica Kienle, Dr. Aivee Teo, Jessica Yang, Marite Fe Ganse, Martine Cajucom, and Joane Laygo.

Also in the Best Dressed issue, Daryl Chang puts together a shopping guide for the first-time Manila visitor (or even long-time resident) including shopping haunts, a designer directory, and great finds that champion Philippine talent and craftsmanship.
They’ve also rounded up 30-plus pairs of the hottest footwear out there—and would you believe none of them have heels?
In the beauty pages you’ll find an arsenal of tools—from the right brush to different irons and blow dryers; plus how to get the perfect minimalist face in just 10 minutes.
Ann Jacobe takes you through a gym she’s dubbed “The Playground” and a healthy diet turned food business that’s given her the energy and glow of a woman half her age.
New neighborhood joints to eat in, Max Eigenmann’s photo diary from Art Basel Hong Kong, and a Q&A with Gab Valenciano are all in Preview July 2014.
