PHOTOS: What happened in Guiuan

Last Tuesday my dad sent a King Air plane to Guiuan (pronounced “gii-wan”), Eastern Samar to check the conditions there.
The 12-seater plane had Nickel Asia’s JB Baylon on board, who brought medicines and supplies to the devastated town.
On the way back they boarded victims to safety in Cebu and Manila, including some injured and the former Mayor of Guiuian, Analiz Kuan.
Following are photos taken by JB Baylon.

Hi Chuvaness, thanks so much for posting, I think these might be the first images on the ground at Guiuan!

My friend Paolo also flew there to get the status and here is his report:

The last place I traveled to, in October, was Calicoan Island, Guiuan. It’s so beautiful!!! The beaches, the jungle, the cave pool, grabe. I am so heartbroken about this disaster. Surf Camp, the resort we stayed in, was destroyed by the typhoon:

But we were relieved to finally learn that the resort staff’s alive (though shaken).

Surfer friends are organizing relief efforts for Guiuan, here’s one by Kage for slippers:

Many of the people helping out are from Manila Surfers Association because Guiuan is a world-class surf spot, and MSA has close ties na with the local surfers there:

My friend and I are doing “Mama Ni Malong” healthy/sustainable care packs wrapped in malong. We’re sending vitamin C, banana chips, solar powered cellphone chargers, and more:

Hope you can post more updates about Guiuan. Thank you again for sharing your info and the photos.

The RVM sisters still have no contact and no information on the situation of their sisters in Guiuan, Eastern Samar and in Palo, Leyte. The RVM sisters in Guiuan run a school, St. Mary’s Academy of Guiuan, located next to the severely damaged Immaculate Concepcion Church. Miss Cecile, or anyone with contact in Guiuan, would you mind requesting them to check out the school and the sisters there? Any information is most appreciated. Thank you very much.

Sana talaga, maybe she’d be able to see some of them, if ever. She said she’s been helping with the Guiuan LGU for the relief goods they’re going to send there.
