What I learned from my “sabbatical”: if you sleep for a very long time, you will get a migraine.
Sorry, hindi ko kaya panindigan ang blog break ko.

I had lunch with my cousin Keri earlier, who told me a story about meeting young actor Daniel Padilla at a party in my neighborhood.
Keri is a huge #kathniel fan, so she was very excited when she heard Daniel Padilla was going to their friend’s house.

Daniel and Keri

“Daniel was so nice,” Keri said over lunch at Kimpura. “He was so polite…Unfortunately he called me ‘Ma’am.'”
LOL. I nearly choked on my steak.
Keri continued, “I told Daniel, please don’t call me Ma’am.”
Daniel replied, “Okay, tita.”
LOL, I asked Keri, “What did you say?”
Keri: “Call me Ma’am na lang…”

kthanksbye

What I had learned from researching a lot about sleep (I was an insomniac) is that if you have sleep debt, you don’t make up for it by adding a lot of hours of sleep in one go. You make up for it by setting up a habit of getting enough sleep everyday, during the same hours you’re most comfortable with. Only then will you feel fully rested.

I should emphasize the “hours you’re most comfortable with” part because there is a misconception that you have to sleep earlier to get more sleep. If you’re a naturally late sleeper, or a naturally late *and* long sleeper, you cannot do anything about it since it’s written in your genes (chronobiology). You’ll just be miserable if you try to go to bed early, or if you try to sleep more when you’ve had enough.

I should also emphasize the enough part. For young adults to adults, the range is 7-9 hours, and for older adults it’s 7-8 hours, nothing more, nothing less. Only newborns and growing kids need 10-17 hours everyday, and I’m very suspicious of people who brag that they only need 5-6 hours of sleep each night.

Dami ko na namang nasabi. I’m just too passionate about sleep and sleeping habits coz it’s been my life’s curse.

    Welcome back! πŸ™‚
