Meet Gabby Abshire

This would make a great reality show—if only they would stay in the Philippines.
Gabby Abshire is a 10-year-old American boy from Milwaukee, who moved to the Philippines at age four when his father, Jack, decided to marry a Filipina named Jing from Angono, Rizal.

Jack and Jing met through a mutual friend one year after Gabby’s mother died from an illness.
It was stepmother Jing who home-schooled Gabby and taught him the basics in Tagalog before the boy learned to speak fluently through his playmates.

A big fan of Eat Bulaga‘s Vic Sotto, Gabby tweeted with comedian Allan K, who finally invited him to go on the show.
Last May 11, 2012, Gabby got to meet “Bossing” Vic Sotto.
Since then, the boy has been tapped as a semi-regular on Eat Bulaga before his family packs up and moves to Thailand.

Jessica Soho tells us more about the boy.

Gabbys real mom did not die from an illness…the writer of this article should have checked his/her facts first. She was killed and Jack took off with Gabby immediately after. He took Gabby from his real friends and family and I bet Gabby doesn’t know what really happened to his real mom.

Cute and smart na bata! Bibo! He really speaks tagalog fluently! He is bilingual! Good for him! Mukhang maganda rin ang pagpapalaki sa kanya. He calls his stepmom, “Mama”, like his real mom. His stepmom must be  loving, smart, patient and wonderful ! Saludo ako sa yo, Jing!  Nice blog CVS!

Cute kid! The step-mum did a phenomenal job! Nakakatuwa but it’s quite sad that most filipinos seem to be proud that their kids don’t even speak tagalog nor understand it even if they grew up here. Such a shame really… Good on ya Gabby but most of all well done to the Mum!
