Deadringer

This June 2012, Esquire Philippines‘ State of Man Issue is headlined by the country’s most bankable leading man, John Lloyd Cruz. But the question on everybody’s mind is: Why did Esquire Philippines duplicate Robert Downey Jr.’s U.S. cover?

I so get the reason why RDJ’s the peg for JLC. (for context, dig the past)

that suit looks awful.  jacket has no shape whatsoever, meaning it wasn’t at the least tailored to fit his torso. (a rental piece probably), faux pick stitch on the lapels make it look so cheap, sleeves are obviously too long, shoulders are off, how the drape of the jacket appear makes me think the fabric’s poly-wool. and that tie, oh my god, that tie!  not only is that half windsor not executed properly, that design looks like it was from the late 90s.

nick sullivan won’t be caught being so careless on a front cover.

I agree. I have a copy of the issue with RDJ on the cover and so when I saw the cover with JLC, I knew right away that it looked too similar.

I notice that local magazines do that a lot. They take ‘inspiration’ from cover shots of the mag’s foreign counterpart. They usually put a fine-print from where they ‘copied’ the idea.

Same thing with Iza Calzado’s cover, copied from Angelina Jolie (Esquire)
