Fine Dining by Lance Katigbak

I just came home from dinner in one of the newly opened fine dining restaurants at The Fort. I didn’t get to eat a lot because I’ve given up meat for Lent. I had a few pieces of bread with butter, a tiny portion of fish, and an ice-cold glass of Coke. What I was really dying for were truffle fries—actually any kind of fries—which they didn’t have.
I didn’t have a bad experience, in fact I thought about giving up meat for good because it makes me eat less.
I totally forgot about this short film I saw earlier this morning.

Filipino filmmaker Lance Katigbak, 18, won the People’s Choice award at the recent Manhattan International Film Festival in New York. His short film, Fine Dining, bested 14 entries from the United States, United Kingdom, India, Belgium, Rwanda, among other countries.
When I first saw it, I thought it would be a typical, sad Filipino poverty film. Turns out it has an unexpected twist, but I still don’t know if I should laugh or cry. And you?

    I love this film. It just shows that even the simplest fare becomes a feast pag may kasamang pagmamahal. :)

    I abso-f–n–lutely LOVED IT! At first, I didn’t know where it was going but I got drawn in. I love how even someone in the slums knows ‘how to live’ and savour life with the little he has, unlike so many of the super-rich who are cheap beyond belief!! Something made or prepared in such a heartfelt way should be more appreciated than a re-gifted LV bag (and PULLLEEZ! DO NOT EVAH give me LV! Im and RV woman…..)

    there are other details that are so revealing of the family’s values—-the daughter is educated and is caught saying good evening mid-sentence…shows how well she is brought up.
