How to spell awkward?

Mahirap maging sikat” is a Filipino expression that means “it’s hard to be famous.”
When you’re on top and the world is at your feet, people constantly bug you that you just learn how to say no.
Like when Justin Bieber refused to autograph a NAIA employee’s CD.
In this clip, it appears that Justin Bieber slaps the CD out of the autograph seeker’s hand, sending it to the floor.

Madonna can be pretend to be gracious as she accepts flowers given by a fan, but really hate it.

Or worse, you’re given five minutes to interview the hottest star in Hollywood, only to find out she hates all your questions.
In fairness, Anne’s handlers should’ve screened the questions before Ricky Lo interviewed her. It would have spared him the humiliation of what happens below.
Lesson from Anne: keep on smiling while being a bitch.

P.S. She was much nicer to Matt Lauer who asked similar questions, minus Lea Salonga.

Post-script to this controversy (that’s now been eclipsed by other newer controversies):

Ricky Lo, you say that you’re not at all affected by this. The “bashers” are the ones that are more affected.

There’s something wrong with you. If you’re okay with where you are, well, mabuhay ang mediocrity sa local entertainment journalism.

She wasn’t being a bitch in the interview.  To be honest, I just don’t think Pinoy media personalities are used to anything other than the droll showbiz chizmax interview format that is a requisite with any and all Star Cinema type films.  Pero I’m not being critical ha.  Kthxbye.

I my opinion Anne Hathaway wasn’t being a bitch..the problem is itong si Ricky parang sya pa ang hindi ready sa interview..the way he asked the questions seems awkward, you can clearly see na he is not prepared, to think na my notepad pa syang hawak. Then he keeps on mentioning Lea Salonga, well it’s ok siguro once then move on to the nxt question that has something to do with the film she’s promoting, halata pang di nya pinapakinggan yung sagot sa kanya ni Anne. It is not the first time that i see Ricky Lo interview stars in the same manner. I hope Phils star starts sending someone who does their research before the interview and confident enough to interview the biggest stars in the world.

P.S please don’t send Boy Abunda

There was an old interview done by Ricky Lo in one of these Hollywood junkets that the actor he was interviewing (can’t remember who he was) threw a fit, snatched Ricky’s cue cards and threw them at his face.

Having said that, I guess it’s time to send other local celebritiy reporters for these press junkets.

I’ll look it up. I forgot who it is eh pero I think it’s for an action movie… I remember seeing it on Startalk. I think it was for Ricky’s birthday and they were showing the interviews he had done, including that particular interview.

Argh, why can’t I remember the name of the actor?!

I just saw the interview of The Movie Guy, and he did the most basic of rules within the 5 minute interview: 1.) Make the subject feel at ease to answer the questions. 2.) Massage the subject’s ego. 3.) Ask pertinent questions regarding the movie and ONLY the movie. The Movie Guy did all of these to a T. The only thing that he forgot to do was use an oil control face blotter. :-)
Mr. Lo, however, did nothing of the sort. He has the charisma of a paper clip, he was obviously not prepared to do the interview, and he knew absolutely nothing about the subject and the movie itself. To think he’s no spring chicken. :-(

And I think it must be noted, Anne didn’t actually answer his question about the weight loss directly, either. She just said something like “Oh, you don’t want to be on the Fantine diet. The Catwoman diet’s better” but she didn’t really answer it. But since Manny took a humorous approach to the question, she wasn’t really annoyed by it. She also didn’t answer when Matt Lauer asked about it (she did say WHY she was not talking about it). So it’s not like she just chose not to answer Ricky’s question. It seems like after the initial interviews on it (and the BOWG interview), she just decided to stop answering the weight loss question because it was becoming too controversial.

Agree re The Movie Guy! I also liked that The Movie Guy stayed away from her personal life — and it was even Anne who initiated it by showing her ring and saying that she got married and how 2012 was a great year. The Movie Guy waited for her to mention her personal life, which shows that he respected her. :)

Its like watching the movie The Impossible…and hirap sa kalooban panoorin ang interview. In the first place, Ricky Lo looks nervous on the other hand Anne looks tired. Perfect combo! I just realized that sometimes we Filipinos carry a misplaced pride. We all know Lea Salonga is great, obviously Anne Hathaway said that in Vogue (again Vogue) and see her reaction when Ricky Lo mentioned Lea’s name on the first instance…but then again its not Lea’s movie..do not remove the spotlight from the star of the moment.

PS. At ang hilig natin sa ..anong message mo sa blah…blah…
PPS. At ang hilig natin sa “please dont forget to watch..blah…I would like to thank Fanny Serrano for my hair and muk-up…its not so Hollywoodish..di sanay si Anne Hathaway.

    haha!

If that interview made you cringe as a Filipino, try na lang to watch (if you can) this week’s episode of Top Chef and you’ll find it more interesting and maybe even make you proud… Their Restaurant Wars episode pitted a restaurant based on French cooking (with a twist) against a modern (and more US mainstream) take on Filipino food.  Whether the Filipino-themed restaurant (named “Urbano”) won, I won’t spoil it here.  Basta, whether it won or lost, it was a very good performance for the Filipino-Hawaiian Executive Chef (Sheldon Simeon).

a great deal has been said about the infamous interview of  Ricky Lo with Anne Hathaway across the net/social media sites. I think that this should be a wake up call for Philippine Star and to Ricky Lo. It is just so easy to judge yes but in fact Lo could’ve changed that if he really knows his job as a showbiz writer/interviewer/columnist in the context of interviewing Hollywood stars where personal questions is a no-no– just like asking an employee if he/she is gay when in fact it is not connected to her job description, right? I think we should be sending to these foreign press junkets BOLD, Young, Witty and Relevant bloods who have the gift of interviewing like Luis Manzano or Ryan Agoncillo or Bianca Gonzales,  (let’s leave Raymond Gutierrez and Toni Gonzaga aside).  That would’ve save us (and our reputation) in the future. I can only laugh (imagine) at the awkwardness if Anne is once again interviewed by Ricky Lo in another year’s time. plus isn’t he way past his prime that he needs to pass the baton to the younger, passionate generations we have now?

Ricky Lo should feel as embarrassed as any thinking journalist ought to be, for his inane and senseless mien and questions..but wait, is he a journalist???? Clearly, she loathed him earlier on, focusing more on Leah Salonga than on her. Imbecile! ( Lo, not Hathaway). Boy Abunda is not far behind in the inanity area.
