Nagpaparamdam

Have you ever felt the presence of someone who has just passed away?
Funny how Jude and I were just talking about Mommy. Today is the 9th day after her passing.
Jude said Mommy has a funny way of saying hello. He has smelled her perfume on two occasions, a perfume given by me.
And just now, while cleaning my desk, I found this note underneath my pile of press releases (which I have to work on!).

Note from Mommy

I like to think that she meant for me to find this today, after all, it is dated “today.”
I immediately called Jude to tell him Mommy is indeed funny, and it made him laugh.
So thank you Mommy. You did tell me your name, I just wasn’t paying attention. :)

1.) This happened when I was very young. It was undas so me and my aunt visited my cousins grave (she died right after she was born). My aunts other daughter didn’t visit her so when we were all home there was this black butterfly inside the house so I was joking my cousin na it was her sister visiting her kasi she wasn’t able to visit her. She was really scared that she didn’t sleep that night.

2.) This happened last month. It was my uncle’s 1st death anniversary. My mom woke me up kasi daw there’s something wrong daw with my grandma. So when I went to their room, my grandma looked possessed. She wasn’t talking, her eyes opened so wide, she was trying to bite our hands everytime we touched her and the scariest of all, she was trying to suffocate my mom. On the other hand, my uncle have always been a trouble-maker and a bad-boy and she kinda had a love-hate relationship with my mom. I felt like I was in a horror movie.

My cousin also made her presence felt by letting me read a note on her book she had been wanting me to read for years. The note was written in 2009, and she passed away July 9, 2012. I was only able to remember to “borrow” her bookr when I was cleaning her room for her “Pa-siyam”. She knows I’m crazy scared of ghosts and “spiritual paramdams”.

The note made me smile and cry at the same time.

    Praying for your Mommy’s soul.

It’s a 9-day novena prayer for the soul of the departed. Pa-siyam marks the end of the novena. The novena aids the soul in his/her journey to the afterlife. The 40 days naman marks the soul’s ascend to heaven.

I guess it takes 9 days for the soul to travel to purgatory. Day 10 to 39 is the “purging” of the soul.

My father passed away 5months ago and it was really heartbreaking. My sister who lives in Hong Kong always tell us that dad never made his presence felt with her (a perfume smell, dream or any sort) then just last week while she was busy with her errands a butterfly followed her around. It was like dad (who loves to take long walks around the city) was with her.

My thoughts and prayers for you Ms. Cecile and your loved ones.

”He has smelled her perfume on two occasions, a perfume given by me.”  On my freshly laundered clothes. Twice. Then yesterday afternoon, I was having late lunch at Cibo Shangri-la Mall. The mall usually plays standard Kenny G type music. Aba, all of a sudden they played the original Henry Manicini “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s, which happens to be mom’s favorite song. That’s when I lost it….:-(

“Moon River” was also my mother’s favorite song. And that’s how I also know when she’s making paramdam. My brother made a quick stop at a Starbucks on his way to the US embassy to apply for a visa and while he was there, they suddenly played ‘Moon River’ by Henry Mancini and he knew that my Nanay would help him get a visa. He did. :)

There have been a number of times while I’m at NAIA waiting for my flight, biglang tutugtog din yung ‘Moon River.’ I always take that as a sign that my mom is seeing me off.

I’ll continue to pray for her and your family.
