Watch your stuff

Mind your own stuff and beware of dropped coins.
My sister lost her carryon, handbag and all its contents at the Berlin airport when she used the restroom and asked her co-worker to watch her stuff.
A man dropped some coins on the floor and people helped him pick them up. That was when my sister’s stuff disappeared. Imagine losing your passport, wallet, cash, credit cards, gadgets, everything, on a trip?
Good thing her husband was there to for moral support and help her make the calls.
While they were taking a train to get a new passport to the Hague, they got a call from the police. Someone had dumped her passport in the trashcan. At the very least it was a blessing to get that one back.

Thieves have no conscience. Be careful even during mass.
In 2005, my uncle suddenly died of a heart attack. While the wake was going on in Malate, some friends and relatives gave envelopes to my tita, who put it inside her handbag. During the mass, her bag was stolen, adding more salt to her wounds.

Not all thieves lurk in squalid, crowded places like Divisoria.
Last night, TV personality RJ Ledesma lost his backpack containing his Mac and other valuables while hosting a wedding at the Peninsula Manila. He had entrusted his stuff to the wedding organizers, who failed to keep an eye on it.
Luckily the hotel’s CCTV captured the thief entering and exiting the Pen with RJ’s backpack.
Unfortunately it’s going to take a miracle to get his stuff back.
Let’s see.

There is actually an anti theft open-source program called preyproject, its a free download kinda like a “find my iphone”
preyproject.com you can geotrack your laptop if it ever gets stolen.
If the thief opens the laptop, I think the program allows you to take a picture of the the thief via your webcam too

Why should the wedding organizers be the one to keep an eye on RJ Ledesma’s things? Is it part of their job?

I just lost my laptop a couple of days ago. On a PAL domestic flight inside my checked in luggage. When I got my luggage it was already unlocked and my stuff in disarray. And to think I flew business class and am a premiere elite card holder.

same thing happened to me in a 5 star hotel in vienna just a couple of weeks ago.  was eating breakfast at the hotel restaurant, my mom’s bag was in front of me while she was getting food from the buffet. somebody tapped me on my shoulder saying i dropped some $ bills, instinctively, i looked behind me and that was when  somebody lifted my mom’s bag.  good thing her passport and other documents was with me and  her gadgets were all up in the room charging.  the only thing they got was the expensive wallet i gave her from HK and half of her $ (other half was also with me)…and her meds.   hotel staff weren’t really as helpful as they should have been, the security cameras that were trained at the door but they don’t records their feeds, we had to go to the police station to file a report.  to add insult to injury, the thief was staying at the hotel and we saw him again the next day when we were about to check out.  no security personnel so we weren’t able get him arrested but i did take a photo of himand posted it on my instagram: http://instagram.com/p/QenzoCqu3_/  Emailed the GM of the hotel who promised to pass it on to the police and other hotel….hopefully he will do as he promised

You should NOT ENTRUST your personal stuff to anyone and let the world know that they failed to keep an eye on it. Responsibilidad mo ang personal mong gamit. Malas lang daming nangaingailangan.

     noticed the following on cctvs:

    1. the thieves don’t buy any food. (para makaalis agad)
    2. they have a big jacket or big bag to cover their hands.
    3. effort magbihis!

Maraming paraan regardless of security. My father’s laptop was almost stolen at Starbucks Rockwell but what was worse was that I was in front of them when they almost stole it! Woman #1 sat at the table across us, Woman #2 went to the security guard to ask for directions (read: distraction), then Man stood near where the laptop was situated. By then nagtaka na ako because the man stood very close to the laptop, so tinitigan ko siya (I remember he has a tattoo on his neck). That maybe startled him, so he quickly left with the two women. Cue the guard who then approached me and said na muntikan na nga akong nakawan (gee, you think?) and that may tumawag na sa kanya na guards from the Powerplant Mall to alarm him na nanggaling na dun yung 3 magnanakaw and that iniikot nila ang buong Rockwell area for victims. Morale of the story? Don’t leave your things whether may kasama kayo or dahil merong guard.

Too much effort to solve this misdemeanor, but is there as much fiasco when it comes to real crimes involving ordinary people?

Wisely put Mrs C. Couldn’t agree with you more. In the first place why would you leave something valuable under the care of the wedding coordinator? worse blame away when something goes wrong? You should be responsible for your own stuff. Grow up.

i was a wedding coordinator few years back and suppliers, especially if they are really known to us, leave their stuff with the coordinators all the time when they are working.  there was always someone manning the reception both where we store all our stuff, too bad Mr Ledesma entrusted his valuables to the wrong coordinator.

I beg to disagree that it was the fault of the coordinators that Mr. Ledesma’s things got lost.. Remember that the coordinators have their own jobs to do. Minding the stuff of another supplier is not one of them. Only items properly endorsed and with acknowledgement receipt are the responsibility of the coordinators.. All items endorsed to the coordinators are acknowledged for proper turnover at the end of the event. The suppliers’ things are not one of them.Even the lechon which was given to the kitchen by the supplier is acknowledged and signed by the coordinator. To begin with, even the coordintors’ things are prone to being stolen, it was just unfortunate that it was Mr. Ledesma’s things that were taken. Don’t place blame on the poor coordinators. I am sure they did not want this to happen and were already hassled by what happened. But to put the blame on them for this incident is like putting the blame on them why so many guests did not arrive.

I saw this sign in Malate church last Saturday: “Please do not leave your belongings unattended. Someone might think it is the answer to their prayers.” Witty and true.

I had a friend whose backpack with his Mac in it got stolen in a restaurant in Katipunan and it was all captured on CCTV. The backpack was under my friend’s table/chair and the thief slowly but surely pulled it from under and walked away casually with it. The guy was dressed decently, in a button down and slacks if I remember correctly.
