Shabby Chic

Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic was a TV show that ran from 1999-2003 on channels E! and the Style Network.
It was my cousin Chelo’s favorite show; I used to hear it from her all the time.
I never paid attention because, well, I didn’t use to watch TV at that time.

My last trip to New York was spent going back to the places I used to know, including shops.
Walking around SoHo one afternoon, Grace and I stumbled upon this store on 117 Mercer Street. (Uhm, can I just say I love this street??)

I was attracted to the crazy petticoat lamps hanging from the ceiling. I nearly bought them!
Lucky for my husband, I couldn’t imagine how to take them home or where to place them.

It was inside the store where I finally got to know Rachel Ashwell’s world.1
I really wanted this antique lamp but the thought of how to take it home stressed me.

Grace and I went downstairs. Luckily, nobody followed us. I could take pictures!

I love all the overstuffed furniture in white. They felt like clouds after a day of walking.

This reminds me of my grandmother

I truly, madly fell in love with the Russian Folk Beds in the back. I want!!!

I decided to buy and handcarry this lamp for my studio.

I also bought this giant wooden rosary.

All I need is a bed, and I’m all set.

Just went to SOHO yesterday. I just walked around Prince st. area and looked in Kidrobot and Cole Haan stores. I have to admit every time I’m at NYC I make it a point to stop at SOHO. Love this area especially the old cobble pot roads in the area. FYI… Also tried the Golden Unicorn in Chinatown. Went there late so not a lot of Dim sum selection (around 1:40pm). Still liked it though.

Love everything in this post! Glad to see that Shabby Chic is not so floral/chintzy anymore, which is how I remember it.

I used to watch Shabby Chic a lot when it was still on the Lifestyle Network. I loved the episodes where she and her assistant went to flea markets and bought stuff which they fixed up or sanded down to get it looking Shabby Chic-perfect… Although I remember that she used a lot more florals back then.

I love the beat-up wooden furniture.

I love her but I just couldn’t get over that episode of Shabby Chic where she painted ” luv mum” on a fist-sized stone and placed it inside her son’s (paper) lunch bag.

it was either MTV Cribs or Shabby Chic for me back in the day.  And how can you not admire that soft British accent??I sorely miss her show. I should find reruns.

Siya lang ang ilan sa may British accent na nagustuhan ko, plus Nigella Lawson. The male chef hosts are generally okay with me, too (like Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall). Now Hollywood is awash with these female British hosts, especially in reality TV shows. The American audience seems to adore them. Personally, naiirita ako. Ewan ko ba.
